Barca Day 5
Day five commenced much the same as the previous day with Barca B training. Rondos for 10 minutes then some warm up exercises and straight to 11 v 11 action to prepare this weekends game against Nastic. Coach would pause and rehearse certain scenarios of what to expect on defense and offense. No tactical work on the day, they saved that for Friday. They finished off with 4 v 5 attacking sequences involving the 3 forwards and 1 attacking mid against the back 4 with a holding mid. Coach Eusebio would start the plays off in possession. The main focus was on the outside backs recovering to the middle after being beaten with a through ball. Center back would shift over to cover but the emphasis was on outside back getting to the middle of the field to cover space left by CB.
Jonathan Dos Santos stayed after practice working on his direct set pieces for approximately 15 minutes. He was in a zone hitting bombs over the wall of dummy’s near post every time.
Eusebio came over to chat with us a bit about the weeks training sessions and how his first season in charge has gone to date. He asked us about the club and how many kids we work with. Eusebio was very impressed with the commitment level shown by our staff to come each year to improve our knowledge of the system and pass it on to the most important part, the youth.
Thursday was our first day with no games set up for the evenings. There was also a nation-wide strike in effect that had almost the entire city locked down.
We took advantage of this to accept an invite from Hans Schonhoffer (Espanyol B asst coach) to meet with the software managers of Mundo Entrenador. The CEO of the company, Luis Casas presented the product at Junior FC where they have their showroom. Basically, it is a software that enables you to break down game footage with every intricate detail you can think of. Soccer is a science!!! We do not see it that way in the States and there is NOBODY (not even in the professional ranks) that we know of using these methods when it comes to soccer. It is commonplace here in Europe and even in South America with their limited financial backing. We will do a separate post detailing things this software can do.
