It’s easy to see a goalkeeper make a save to prevent a goal, it’s not as easy to see a defender who is organizing everything and only making the occasional stop that doesn’t necessarily prevent a goal. Plus it’s easier to just give it to the GK than to figure out who the best of the back 4, that requires analysis and thinking, and most people don’t want to do that they just want to look at the stat sheet, who scored, and which GK had a shutout, it doesn’t take any soccer knowledge to do those things.

I have been curious about this for so long…and since you guys are “totally honest”……why is it when a goalie gets a shut out in a game…he is considered the “winner”, “most valuable player”, etc. When its the back line that was able to get him those shut outs.
